Promise word for 2025 : God’s blessings and Favour - Psalm 84:11

Psalm 84:11

Psalm 84:11 states, "For the Lord God is a sun and shield; The Lord will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly."

It is a song of praise and longing for the house of God, expressing the writer's desire to be in the presence of God and praising Him for His goodness and protection. It is believed to have been written by the sons of Korah, a group of Levites responsible for the music in the temple. The psalm is often used in Christian and Jewish worship services as a reminder of the importance of seeking and being in the presence of God.

1. For the Lord God is a Sun and Shield

(a) God as a Sun

Light and Guidance: The sun is essential for life; it provides light that dispels darkness. In a spiritual context, God as a sun symbolizes His role in guiding us through life’s uncertainties.

Scriptural References:

      •     John 8:12 – “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

      •     Psalm 119:105 – “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

(b) God as a Shield:

Protection : A shield provides defense against attacks. God protects us from spiritual and physical dangers.

Scriptural References:

      •     Psalm 91:4 – “He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.”

      •     Ephesians 6:16 – “Above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.”

      •     Proverbs 18:10 – “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe.”

2. The Lord will give Grace and Glory

(a) Grace

Grace is often described as God's unmerited favor towards humanity. It is seen as a gift from God that cannot be earned or deserved, but is given freely out of His love for us.

Scriptural References:

      • Ephesians 2:8-9 – “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.”

         •  2 Corninthians 12:9 - "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness."

         • Genesis 6:8 - "But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD."

(b) Glory

Glory reflects God’s presence and the blessings that come from living in accordance with His will.

Scriptural References:

      •     Romans 8:18 – “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”

3. No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly

The promise that God will not withhold any good thing from those whose walk is blameless highlights His generosity and commitment to our well-being. It reassures believers that God is aware of our needs and desires to provide for us. The term “blameless” speaks to a heart that seeks righteousness and strives to live in accordance with God’s ways, though it does not imply perfection.

Application for Devotion:

• Trust in God’s Provision: Reflect on areas in your life where you need to trust God more fully. Consider how He has provided for you in the past and how you can rely on His goodness in the future.

• Seek His Presence: Spend time in prayer and worship, acknowledging God as your sun and shield. Invite His light into areas of darkness in your life and ask for His protection in times of trouble.

• Live uprightly/Blamelessly: Examine your heart and actions. Are there areas where you need to realign your life with God’s standards? Strive for a walk that reflects your commitment to Him, knowing that He honors those who seek to live righteously.
