It's important to understand the difference between Thanking God and Praising God. Both of them are two different things, however both of them are vital in one's Life, you cannot get near to God without them.


Thanking God is an attitude of gratitude and appreciation. We thank God for the blessings he has bestowed upon us all through our life. Eg. Thanking Him for Salvation, Thanking Him for the  Family, Thanking him for the good Health, Thanking Him for the Food, Thanking Him for the Job, Thanking Him for the House, Thanking Him for Protection, Thanking Him for provision...... If we were to list them out we would not have enough room for all that He has done for us.


On the other hand, Praising God is much more different to Thanking, it is an attitude of recognition or expressing our admiration, We praise Him for who He is (not for what he has done for us but for His character, His attributes and His abilities). Eg. We praise God because He is Holy, We praise Him because He is all powerful etc.
